Postdoctoral Fellowships at the Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) in Chile
The recently granted Interdisciplinary Center for Aquaculture Research (INCAR) by the Chilean Commission for Science and Technology (CONICYT), aims at becoming a world-class research center focusing on aquaculture. The proposed INCAR will be devoted to make a significant scientific contribution to solve some of the most urgent needs of the Chilean aquaculture. We convene the majority of researchers dealing aquaculture issues in Chile, in a partnership involving Universidad de Concepción, Universidad Andrés Bello, and Universidad Austral de Chile. The proposed research will tackle highly relevant questions in genomics, native marine resources, and environmental and socio-economic sustainability.
The main focus of the Aquaculture Genome Technology (AGT) Research Program 1 (RP1) of INCAR, is the study of growth, nutrition, reproduction, and immune function in cultivated species under the light of genomics.
The specific questions of RP1 are: Do specific genes drive the phenotypic variation among organisms? Are there specific DNA polymorphisms highly linked to biological processes relevant for aquaculture? How quickly may divergence arise among invasive populations? What is its genomic basis? What environmental factors drive genetic divergence among invasive populations? How spatially and temporally stable is both genetic and transcriptomic diversity in areas were aquaculture activities are common? Is genetic structure of cultured benthic marine invertebrates temporally stable with marked source-sink dynamics?
Applicants must hold a PhD in a discipline related to the RP1 research goals and have obtained it in the last 4 years. The postdoctoral fellow should have advanced skills in some of the following lines: genomics (including Next Generation Sequencing analysis), molecular ecology, ecological physiology, laboratory rearing of marine species, field work. Also is desirable that the candidate can demonstrate the ability to lead writing and publishing in indexed journals. Start date May 2013. We are accepting applications for a two-year postdoctoral position.
Salary is assigned according to CONICYT standards, equivalent to ca. 31 kUSD per year.
Candidates should submit their CV including a list of publication and a letter outlining the candidate’s research background and the names and contact information of two references (electronic submission in one PDF document is strongly preferred). Inquiries and applications should be addressed to Dr. Cristian Gallardo-Escárate POSTULACION CERRADACentro de Biotecnología. Universidad de Concepción, Concepción, Chile.
